Reblogging for the gif about shrinking Native American territories. Just look at the huge difference between 1860 and 1870. In just ten years.
This is one of the best posts on Tumblr.
That tip pic doe!
The country built on genocide and slavery=EVERY DAMN COUNTRY EVER
Dude, I just want some good stuffing.
Idk what this is supposed to do. Guilt Americans? I don’t feel bad, personally. Is it sad and wrong, yes. Genocide happened all over the world. So history, sure. But I don’t see why anyone would get upset.
If genocide and slavery don’t upset you, what does?
I just said it’s sad and wrong.
Omg name the empire built on the enslavement of (many) people and the genocide of (many other) people!!! Social justice yes.
Or if that example was too eurocentric for you,
The expansion of the Tang dynasty, undertaken by Wu Zetian, WoC (who, as an aside, murdered her infant grandchild out of paranoia, grrl power). Just look at all those people enslaved and killed.
Maybe that’s not recent enough?
That’s the Zulu Kingdom, doesn’t look that impressive by comparison, does it? Wrong. Between its foundation in 1816 and its fall in 1879 it expanded from being a single, unimportant tribe to the most powerful in the region. Not peacefully though. In fact, the bloody, systematic military expansion killed between 1 and 2 million and displaced millions more, a period now known as ‘mfecane’, which means ‘the crushing’. Also, given that the population of Africa at the time was estimated to be around 100 million, the Zulu Kingdom killed 1% - 2% of the population of Africa (?!?)
My point being, that every race of every people in every country on the planet has at one time or another engaged in slavery, genocide and general douchery towards one another, there are tonnes of other examples. I’m sick to fucking death of Tumblr implying that white people have a fucking monopoly of slavery and genocide (especially in America, given there were both black and Native American slave owners) It’s not true and results in the erasure of deaths of billions of others throughout history at the hands of others. It’s not even a recent issue (abolition of slavery 1833, British Empire, 1865 US, read: during the Zulu genocide). That’s not to say we should just forget about it, it’s important to look at events like these with historical interest, but stuff like this definitely should not have an impact on the way you treat people today, and does not justify you behaving shittily to anyone of any race, colour or creed
